Prince Edward Island National Park was established in 1937, when a 40- kilometer stretch of the province’s north shore was added to Canada’s system of National Parks. It protects for all time a representative example of one of the country’s outstanding natural regions, the Maritime Plain, which feature dune-edged beaches, barriers sand spits, forested till uplands, barachois ponds and salt marshes.

In 1998 six kilometers of the Greenwich Peninsula were added to Prince Edward Island National Park, to protect unique dune formations, rare plants and animals, and archaeological findings dating back 10,000 years.

The park offers several recreational opportunities for the whole family from camping to bird watching. Enjoy a hike or bike on one of our scenic trails, swim at one of the spectacular supervised ocean beaches located throughout the park or take in one of the many interpretive programs offered daily during the summer months.

As you experience the sights and sounds of this special place, please be mindful of how your presence can affect the balance of nature in Prince Edward Island National Park.
